Deep and intense on the nose with perfumes of dried cherries and blueberries, with notes of spiced autumn fruit compote. On the palate the wine is powerful, with well balanced ripe tannins and spiced, concentrated savoury cherry fruit character.
Alpha Zeta was started in 1999, with the aim of producing a range of modern, fruit driven wines from the hills outside Verona. Working with leading New Zealand winemaker, Matt Thomson, our aim was to work with growers to obtain ripe grapes (by reducing yields and picking later) and then, using Matt’s expertise, preserve these flavours in the finished wines. This has resulted in wines that offer great value, quality, balance and typicity.
The 2011 whites are scented and racy. The Chardonnay remains outstanding value, while the Pinot Grigio, made solely from grapes grown on hillside vineyards in the Alpone Valley, is balanced, drinkable & typical. The 2011 Valpolicella is the best yet from Alpha Zeta, with its black cherry fruit and velvety tannins, while the Ripasso is dry and silky on the palate. The Amarone is one of the best value Amarones on the market.
